Philosophy

Our Open Source Philosophy.

Software should be free, accessible, and completely self-hosted.

We believe that great developer tools and creator databases should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their budget or infrastructure setup. That's why Spydeck is completely open-source, with no telemetry, vendor lock-in, or artificial limitations.

We've observed too many open-source projects slowly close their doors, adding artificial feature paywalls and proprietary limitations. We've chosen a different path: complete data ownership and transparency.

What This Means

  • 100% Free and Open Source

Every line of core code is open. You can view it, modify it, audit the scraping engines, and deploy it for any purpose under the AGPL-3.0 license.

  • No Artificial Paywalls

Every single feature we develop—from multi-platform indexing to server-side HEIC video transcoding—is immediately added to the open-source release.

  • Complete Data Ownership

Your tracked creator handles, scraped swipe files, and media payloads stay locally inside your PostgreSQL database. No SaaS vendor can access or monetize your competitor intelligence.

  • Forever Self-Hosted

Our core deployment vector is and will always be a single-command Docker Compose stack. We build software to be run on your own servers.

How We Sustain Development

Making software free to use doesn't mean software development comes for free. We sustain our core engineering work through two main avenues:

Community Support: We welcome sponsorships and code contributions. Donations help fund infrastructure, documentation updates, and new platform indexing strategies.

Managed Cloud Services: For agencies and marketing teams who want to scale their databases without configuring proxies, API keys, or self-hosted Docker servers, we offer a managed **Spydeck Cloud** instance. The revenue generated from Cloud directly pays for open-source development.
